WELCOME FROM THE 25TH POLEMARCH
As the 25th Polemarch of the Upper Marlboro/Waldorf (MD) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., thank you for visiting our website.
Charted on August 24, 1984, the Upper Marlboro/Waldorf (MD) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated (UM/W) services the communities in southern Prince George’s and Charles counties. Our goal is to promote strong, healthy, and socially conscience communities through youth mentoring programs, men’s health and wellness initiatives, and active civic engagement.
Our mission is “Serving the Upper Marlboro and Waldorf communities through youth mentoring, Men’s Health Awareness, and community service”. We, along with the UM/W Silhouettes (our auxiliary organization for the wives of Kappas), have partnered with organizations like The Family Justice Center in Prince George’s County to serve as a beacon of hope for victims of domestic violence. We have funded and provided the labor to renovate spaces in their facility, provide much-needed supplies for women and children, and supported annual fundraising and holiday events. We have adopted elementary schools in Prince George’s and Charles counties providing reading buddies and academic support to the student and teachers. We are social justice advocates working with local law enforcement agencies and governments to promote social awareness and open lines of communication. We participate in annual events like highway clean-ups, Christmas in April, Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner baskets, toy drives, and coat drives are just some of the ways we continually give back to the community with our time, talent, and treasure.
In partnership with the Kappa Youth Development Foundation, UM/W provides scholarships to deserving students from Prince George's and Charles counties who are working towards a bachelor’s degree or professional certification. We believe investing in our future means literally investing. Through fundraising efforts and community partnerships, we have distributed thousands of dollars in scholarships.
Please feel free to access this site for information on activities sponsored by the chapter, community service projects, and youth mentoring opportunities. If you are a brother new to the area, we welcome you to attend one of our chapter meetings in your search for a new Kappa home. If you have a passion for service to the community and meet the requirements for membership, please contact us.
We look forward to working with our communities to educate, empower, enlighten, and embrace change and progress.
